Following his announcement that he would be retiring on his birthday in the autumn of 2006, the world's most famous tenor will be bidding farewell to Hungarian audiences as part of his year-long "Farewell Tour". This grand tour of final appearances is taking in all Pavarotti's favourite cities, one of which is Budapest. The singer had originally expressed the wish that his last concert of all would coincide with his seventieth birthday, but from a recent announcement it would seem his energies are far from exhausted: he has just extended the tour by another year!

The orchestral support for Pavarotti's Budapest concert will be the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, a versatile ensemble that has accompanied the Maestro on a number of his international concerts over the years. After their concert together in Hamburg in 2001, Pavarotti declared it was an "immeasurable joy and honour to share the stage with these fantastic musicians."
